Data Storage System Product Description
A data storage system (DSS) is a fault-tolerant complex of hardware and software designed to store and manage large amounts of data at high transfer speeds. Data transfer speed is measured in IOPS—the number of read and write operations per second.
Depending on the volume of your data, the tasks being solved, and privacy requirements, you can store it:
- in a logical unit (LUN) of a storage system;
- on dedicated storage in one of the pools;
- on cartridges of tape storage.
Storage can be connected to one or more dedicated servers:
-
LUN storage can only be connected to dedicated servers of custom configuration with a 2 × 10 GE network card + 10 Gbps LUN storage SAN connection. The server must be in the same pool as the LUN storage;
-
a dedicated storage system can be connected to dedicated servers with a 2 × 10 GE network card + 10 Gbps LUN storage SAN connection.
Use Cases
LUN storage is used for deploying your own virtualization system, working with hot backups, databases, and media files.
Dedicated storage is used to handle large amounts of data.
Tape storage is used for compliance with long-term data retention requirements and for storing data offline.
LUN storage
LUN storage is a pre-configured part of a dedicated storage system, isolated at the software level. Logical units of a single storage system can be allocated to different clients, while shared network interfaces are used for connection.
We allocate a LUN on the Huawei OceanStor Dorado 5000 V6 all-flash storage system. Its performance metrics are 8,000/8,000 IOPS per TB of data.
The performance of each LUN depends on its volume. The larger it is, the higher the performance. Change LUN volume at any time.
Dedicated storage
Dedicated storage is storage isolated at the hardware level without pre-configuration. Dedicated network interfaces are used to connect to it.
The storage system parameters and manufacturer are selected individually.
Tape storage
Tape storage is an autonomous storage system that uses magnetic tape cartridges for data writing. Data is written to 18 TB LTO-9 tape cartridges. Upon request, cartridges can be moved to an individual storage slot.
You can rent either a single cartridge or an entire dedicated tape library. If you rent only cartridges, the tape library administration service remains with Servercore. To write data to a cartridge, you will need storage where backup copies will be saved—for example, cloud storage, a virtual machine, or an FTP server. Data is written to cartridges according to a pre-agreed schedule, for example, daily, every two days, or once a week.
We use tape storage from HPE, DELL, and IBM. Tape storage parameters are selected individually.
Areas of responsibility
Servercore ensures the uptime and availability of the storage system.
For LUN storage, we are responsible for administration and pre-configuration.
Servercore is not responsible for the setup and administration of dedicated storage systems.
