IPMI monitoring

IPMI monitoring is a proactive hardware monitoring system for dedicated servers that allows you to detect signs of malfunctions and hardware degradation before a failure occurs.

Monitoring is supported by servers with a KVM console, which is available for every dedicated server, except for servers of the Chipcore line and servers in a custom rack — learn more on the Servers in a custom rack page on servercore.com.

The set of data collected by IPMI monitoring may vary depending on the server hardware. Sensors are used to track:

  • whether the server is powered on;
  • power consumption;
  • temperature and cooling of server components;
  • status of the processor, memory modules, power supply units, and disks;
  • fan speed and status;
  • voltage, and more.

IPMI does not transmit data on CPU load, RAM usage, or available disk space. Servercore does not have access to the server's OS or user data. If faults requiring attention are detected, Servercore staff may create a ticket suggesting you approve the necessary work.

If IPMI monitoring is enabled for a dedicated server, you can view its metrics in the Control Panel. The Control Panel displays only a portion of the metrics. You can get more metrics using an agent:

Enable IPMI monitoring

IPMI monitoring can be enabled when ordering a dedicated server and for existing servers.

  1. In the Control panel, on the top menu, click Products and select Dedicated servers.

  2. Open the server page → Monitoring tab.

  3. Enable IPMI monitoring.

View metrics

Metric display in the Control panel depends on the data type:

  • binary or ternary data is shown as statuses;
  • quantitative data from sensors is shown as charts.

Charts display data for the selected period; statuses show the metric state for the last second of the selected period.

  1. In the Control panel, on the top menu, click Products and select Dedicated servers.

  2. Open the server page → Monitoring tab.

  3. Optional: filter the metrics:

    3.1. Select a preset range or specify the period for which you need metrics.

    3.2. Select the time zone for displaying metric collection time — UTC or your local time.

  4. View the statuses and charts of the available dedicated server metrics.
