Connect a domain to an IP address

To ensure that a domain name resolves to a website hosted on a server with a specific IP address, you need to link the domain name and the IP address using an A record.

  1. If you do not have a zone yet, create a zone.

  2. Add an A record with the IP address of your server.

  3. If the domain is not yet delegated to Servercore NS servers, delegate domain management.

1. Create a zone

A zone is a logical grouping of resource records for a domain and its subdomains.

  1. In the control panel, in the top menu, click Products and select DNS hosting.

  2. Make sure that you create the zone in the right project. The current project can be viewed on the left above the section menu.

  3. In the Domain zones section, click Add zone.

  4. Enter the DNS zone name — domain name with a dot, for example example.com.

  5. If you do not need to activate the zone immediately, uncheck the Activate domain zone checkbox. You can activate the zone at any time.

  6. Click Add. NS and SOA resource records will be automatically created in the zone.

2. Add an A record

  1. In the control panel, in the top menu, click Products and select DNS hosting.

  2. In the Domain zones section, open the zone page.

  3. Click Add. In DNS hosting, resource records are stored in groups — one group contains all domain resource records of the same type. For example, a group of NS records contains four records pointing to Servercore NS servers.

  4. To create a resource record group for the main domain (zone name), leave the Group name field empty. For example, if you leave the field empty for the example.com. zone, a record group will be created with the name example.com.

  5. Select the type of resource records in the group — A.

  6. Enter the TTL or leave the default value. TTL is the time in seconds that a resource entry in the NS server cache is considered up to date and does not need to be re-cached. The TTL of a group applies to all resource records in the group.

  7. Enter the record value — the IP address of the server where the website is located.

  8. Optional: enter a comment — any additional information about the group. The comment will be displayed only in DNS hosting.

  9. Click Add.

  10. Wait for the added resource record group to propagate to the DNS servers. Propagation may take up to 72 hours.

  11. Optional: check resource records. If after 72 hours from creation the resource records do not appear on the DNS servers, create a ticket.

3. Delegate domain management

To transfer the management of domain resource records to Servercore servers, you must delegate the domain — specify these servers in the domain's NS records.

  1. Go to the control panel of the domain registrar where your domain is registered.
  2. In NS records, replace the values with Servercore NS servers: a.ns.srv.cr, b.ns.srv.cr, c.ns.srv.cr, d.ns.srv.cr. Each server must be specified in a separate record.
  3. Wait for the NS records to propagate to the DNS servers. Propagation may take up to 72 hours.
