Network locks

Traffic from some ports may be temporarily blocked to protect against malicious network activity. Blocking is imposed if:

  • there's a lot of spam emails coming from the IP address;
  • there's been complaints about the IP address;
  • The IP address was found on the DNSBL spam lists - public blacklists of IP addresses and domains;
  • IP address blocked on demand local regulator.

You can view such locks in the control panel. If you have eliminated the cause of the lock, you can submit a request for unlocking. Each request is considered individually, we do not guarantee a positive response.

Also some TCP/UDP ports are blocked by default. For more information, see Blocked Ports.

View network locks

  1. In the Dashboard, on the top menu, click Products and select Network Incidents.

  2. Open the Network Blocking tab. For each blocking, you specify the socket and protocol, the blocking period, and the traffic action that falls under the blocking conditions:

    • discard - traffic is blocked completely;
    • redirect - traffic is redirected to an additional scrubbing system;
    • rate limit - traffic is rate-limited to a specified rate (bytes per second).
  3. If the IP address does not appear in the blockers, but traffic is restricted:

    3.1 Make sure the port is not blocked by default. We block some ports for the security of the Servercore infrastructure. See Blocked Ports for more information.

    3.2 Make sure the IP address is not blocked due to a DDoS attack. For more information, see Blocked Attacks.

    3.3 Check if the IP address is in spam lists on the mxtoolbox website. If the IP address is in spam lists, submit an unblocking request.

    3.4 If the IP address is not blocked and is not in spam lists, but traffic is limited, create a ticket.

    3.5 Wait for Servercore employee's response about the reasons of blocking.

Submit an unlock request

Each unlock request is considered individually, we do not guarantee a positive response.

  1. Create a ticket. In the ticket specify:

    • the port to be unblocked;

    • the purpose of using the port. If you plan to use the port for mailings, specify the type of mailing, the number of emails in the mailing, an example email, and whether the recipient can unsubscribe from the mailing;

    • The IP address for which you want to unblock the port.

  2. Wait for a Servercore employee to reply to the ticket about the steps you need to take to unlock.

    If a port has been blocked due to an IP address being on a spam list, we will request that the IP address be removed from the spam list. We cannot guarantee the result - spam lists are managed by third-party services, and they make the decision to remove them independently.

  3. Fix the cause of the lockout and report it in the ticket.

  4. Wait in the ticket for a Servercore employee to respond with a decision.
