Connect object storage to Veeam Backup & Replication™
You can store backups made with Veeam Backup & Replication™ in object storage.
1. Create a container
- In the Control Panel, on the top menu, click Products and select Object Storage.
- Go to the Containers section.
- Click Create Container.
- Enter a name for the container. For compatibility with the S3 API, the container name must be unique within the object store and conform to Amazon S3 bucket naming rules, see the Bucket naming rules instructions in the Amazon documentation for details.
- Select the region and pool where the container will be created.
- Select the container type — private.
- Select the storage class — cold storage.
- Select the addressing type — vHosted.
- Click Create Container.
2. Configure access
Access can be configured by a user with the Account Owner or User Administrator role.
- Create a service user с role with access to object storage. If you are using a user with the Object Storage User role, the container must have a configured access policy.
- Issue an S3 key to the user.
3. Add a repository to Veeam Backup & Replication™

Authorize in Veeam Backup & Replication with your account.

Go to Backup Infrastructure → Backup Repositories.

Click Add repository.

Select Object storage → S3 Compatible → S3 Compatible.

In the Name step:
5.1 Enter the name of the repository in the Name field.
5.2 Optionally, enter a description in the Description field.
5.3 Optional: to prevent overloading of the backup server, limit the number of concurrent tasks. To do this, check the Limit concurrent tasks to checkbox and specify the number of backups.
5.4 Press Next.

At the Account step:
6.1 In the Service point field, enter the S3 domain in the pool where the container resides.
6.2 In the Region field, enter the pool where the object store is located.
6.3 In the Credentials field, click Add… add the S3 key that you issued when setting up access:
- Access key — field value Access key from the S3 key;
- Secret key — field value Secret key from the S3 key.
6.4 Press OK.
6.5 In the Connection Mode field, click Choose and select the method of connection to object storage. To connect to object storage:
- directly — select Direct;
- through a specific Veeam infrastructure server — select Through gateway server and enter the server gateway.
6.6 Press Next.

On the Bucket step:
7.1 In the Bucket field, click Browse, select a container, and click OK.
7.2 In the Folder field, click Browse, enter the name of the folder to be created in the container, and click OK.
7.3 Optional: To limit the amount of data stored, check the Limit object storage consumption to checkbox and enter the value you want to limit the storage capacity to.
7.4 Press Next.

In the Mount Server step:
8.1. In the Mount server field, select a server. The server selection depends on what you selected in the Account step in the Connection Mode field:
- If you selected Direct, in the Mount server field, select the backup server;
- If you selected Through gateway server, in the Mount server field, select the server you specified in the Connection Mode field.
8.2 Press Next.

In the Review step:
9.1 Check the settings.
9.2 Optional: if you connect a container that was previously used to store Veeam backups, to import existing backups, check the Search the repository for existing backups and import them automatically checkbox.
9.3 Click Apply.

At the Apply step:
10.1 Wait until the settings are saved — a green check mark appears in each line.
10.2 Press Next.

In the Summary step, click Finish.
